Express FM: Youth Group Opportunity
Simon Gibbons, from ExpressFM, has been in touch with me about an opportunity for young Christians in the Portsmouth area to engage in an interesting radio-based project. He writes:
Funding has been received to produce a monthly show from Faiths In Action funding. Provisionally entitled the Interfaith Show it would be a monthly show and last (initially) one hour. The idea is for young people of Christian and Muslim faiths to discuss issues that affect young people and look at it from their point of view – both to promote understanding and show similarities, and to demonstrate that such issues affect all of us by allowing an exchange of views. The Muslim Youth Group, overseen by Mish Choudhury are already on board. On air discussion will grow out of regular weekly meetings held at the Friendship Centre overseen by a member of Express FM (all CRB checked) who will offer guidance on presenting and during the show itself more technical guidance. Technical skills will be taught this way so eventually the young people themselves can operate the equipment and learn about radio production at the same time. The show It is envisaged that young people representing other faiths will also be included at a later date to take part in both the meetings and the show itself.
This is an opportunity for open discussion amongst young people about issues that affect them, their beliefs and society around them, plus to have the experience of being on air and to learn how to make a radio show.
